Pony Express comes through Lodgepole

LODGEPOLE -- In the early morning hours of June 19, Gordy Wilkins and Kai Wilkins made their way into the Village of Lodgepole carrying the mochila for the annual Pony Express Re-Ride.
They made their way to the Lodge Pole Depot Museum, greeted by a group of about 24 residents and other guests excited to see this event come through the area. The re-ride was about 1 ½ hours behind schedule, with the Lodge Pole Depot Museum board providing coffee and water, the group visited and stuck it out to greet the riders to the Village and see them off to Chappell to the Deuel County Fairgrounds.
Riders continued to Chappell, then to the Nebraska/Colorado line south of Big Springs. Riders made it to the Kansas/Missouri line 7 p.m. June 21, and finishing the ride at St. Joseph, Mo.
The Pony Express Re-Ride began June 11 in Sacramento, CA, and finished its 10-day event on June 21 in St. Joseph, MO.
