Gordon launches events center project
GORDON, Neb. - A dusty building at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds in Gordon may soon become the center of celebration and economic growth in the area.
Known locally as “the dance hall,” the aging structure is set for a major renovation. Spearheaded by community member Valerie Beel, the project aims to transform the space into a full-fledged events center that can host everything from proms and wedding receptions to concerts and business gatherings.
“The possibilities for this building are endless,” Beel said.
Beel says the new events center would not only serve local needs but also attract visitors from outside the community. One key feature in the renovation plans: a commercial kitchen—something Beel says Gordon currently lacks.
“We’ve lost three businesses in Gordon because there’s no access to a commercial kitchen in town,” Beel said.
The project will be completed in phases. Phase one involves remodeling the existing building. Phase two will add a 25-by-80-foot expansion on the south side, increasing space for larger gatherings.
Beel believes the new events center could serve as a spark for revitalization in Gordon.
“We’re not trying to duplicate Kevin Costner, but we believe that if we build it, they will come,” Beel said.
So far the group has raised $120,000 for the project.
