KEARNEY, Neb. - Law enforcement agencies in Central Nebraska are informing residents to not be alarmed if they see drones flying around Monday night as it's part of a police training exercise.

The Kearney Police Department and Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a joint drone training exercise at Cottonmill Park Monday night from 8:00 p.m. to midnight.

The special training will focus on drone usage in public safety operations, including search and rescue of missing or injured individuals in addition to evidence recovery.

Certain areas of the park will be temporarily closed including Old Father Trail and the surrounding areas, which will be clearly marked with barricades and signage indicating police training is in progress.

Police ask that the public avoid the marked areas during the training hours to ensure both the safety of the public and the success of the training.
