MADISON, Neb. — A two-vehicle accident occurred on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the intersection of Highway 81 and N. Main St, just outside Madison city limits. 

Preliminary investigations, eyewitness accounts, and evidence from the scene suggest that a Black Dodge Durango, nearly collided with a vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 81 as it turned left from N. Main St onto Highway 81. The Durango stopped in the left lane of northbound traffic on Highway 81, where it was rear-ended by four occupants in a Red Nissan Sentra traveling northbound on Highway 81.

The collision resulted in the closure of northbound Highway 81, with traffic rerouted onto N Main St. All four occupants of the Red Nissan Sentra were transported by Madison Rescue to Faith Regional Health Services for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The two occupants of the Black Dodge Durango declined transport by Madison Rescue but were later taken to Faith Regional Health Services via personal transportation.

The driver of the black Dodge Durango was cited for multiple traffic violations. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, supported by the Madison Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, and Madison Fire and Rescue, responded to the incident.
