Judge sentences man involved in high-speed chase with Kimball authorities

KIMBALL -- Forty-two-year-old Kyle Woolington has been sentenced for leading Kimball authorities on a high-speed pursuit in February.
The official charges that Woolington was found guilty for are Class 4 Felony operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, Class 1 Misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement, Class 2 Misdemeanor failure to give information at an accident scene, and Class 3 Misdemeanor willful reckless driving.
In Kimball County District Court on Tuesday, Judge Derek Weimer sentenced Woolington to 19 days’ time served and 24 months of probation based on recommendations from both County Attorney Mark Kovarik and Woolington’s attorney Stacy Bach.
Bach said a term of probation would be appropriate based on the serious charges but to also consider that Woolington has no criminal history in Nebraska and that this was out of character for him.
“There is no excuse for [what I did], I wasn’t thinking straight, and I just didn’t want to go to jail,” Woolington said in court. “I apologize for my actions and to the officer I put in danger that night.”
After delivering his sentence, Judge Weimer said: “These are the kinds of cases that I’ve always taken very, very seriously. Officer safety and safety for people on the road is paramount. I will abide by the recommendations, but I want you to know and understand, I am prepared to send you to prison if there are any further problems.”
