KIMBALL -- The staff at Kimball Health Services hosted a development course to further their knowledge and strengthen their emergency response and teamwork in rural settings.

The Rural Trauma Team Development Course (RTTDC) was led by Joann Childres, PA-C with Aligne Providers of Wyoming, Dr. Burton from Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, and Sue Wilson of RWMC and representing the State of Nebraska Trauma Service.

Stevie Webb, CNO & COO Kimball Health Services, said: “In rural areas, trauma incidents may be rare, but when they do happen, they’re often life-threatening. That is why having both a trained hospital team and EMS services available is critical.”

The staff participated in a full day of education starting with classroom instruction, followed by realistic trauma simulations.

The staff practiced scenarios of different trauma injuries on a manikin. They placed chest tubes and intubations and started IV’s, arterial lines, and foley catheters.

Wilson said, "This gave them the ability to have hands-on experience with these invasive procedures that they would have to do on a real human trauma patient, which is great for them to practice."

Eighteen KHS staff members completed the course.

“Trauma training ensures we can respond efficiently and confidently – from the scene to the ER,” Webb said. “This level of preparedness isn’t just about clinical skill; it’s a commitment to our community, making sure that even in the most critical moments, our neighbors receive the best care possible.”
