SYRACUSE, NE - In a battle between Plattsmouth Post 56 and Syracuse Post 100, it was Plattsmouth that held on for an 8-6 victory in a back and forth game on Friday night.

Syracuse got on the board right away in the bottom of the first as they benefited from a hit by pitch, walk and an error to push a run across. Both pitchers put up scoreless second innings of work as Post 100’s Elliot Harden and Post 56’s Chance Jackson settled in.

In the top of the third, Plattsmouth got on the board. Henry Loontjer singled and then Louis Ingram followed that up with an RBI double to tie the game at one. After a flyout for the second out of the inning, Levi Walker came up big with a RBI single to give Plattsmouth a 2-1 lead. Syracuse was unable to respond in the bottom of the frame, as Jackson picked up another strikeout in the inning. He finished with seven on the night.

Post 56 scored another run in the top of the fourth as Brady Thomas led off the inning with a double and scored on an RBI single from Kaden Mink to increase the Plattsmouth lead to 3-1. Syracuse responded with two runs in their half of the inning. An error to lead off the inning put a runner on before the next two batters were retired. A two-out walk and a single from Colton Sprague scored two and tied things back up, 3-3.

In the fifth, Plattsmouth jumped back in front thanks to a Thomas 2-run single and an RBI groundout from Cody Demboski. That made it 6-3. Syracuse stranded two runners in scoring position in the bottom half of the inning and neither team scored in the sixth as Plattsmouth took that 6-3 lead to the seventh.

In the seventh, a leadoff double from Levi Walker set the table for a big Plattsmouth inning. With two runners on and two outs, Jacob Longton doubled to score both runners and increase the lead to 8-3. Syracuse wouldn’t go quietly, as two walks to lead off the bottom half of the inning gave them some momentum. A strikeout followed by a hit by pitch would load the bases with just one out. The next batter struck out but with two down and the bases loaded, Gavin Kelch hit a 2-run double to make it 8-5 with runners at second and third. Mason Jording was able to score on a wild pitch to make it 8-6, but Plattsmouth was able to get the final batter to strike out and end the game.

Plattsmouth improved to 7-1 while Syracuse fell to 4-4. Plattsmouth will be back in action Tuesday against Empire Netting & Fence (Waverly). Syracuse dropped a 16-4 decision to LWW Post 353/237 on Saturday, and they'll take the field against Springfield on Monday.
