Longtime coach Rod Hartman wins Feeken Memorial Coaching Award

HASTINGS, Neb. — A longtime high school sports coach in Hastings is the second winner of a prestigious local award.
The foundations for Hastings Public Schools, Adams Central Schools and Hastings Catholic Schools jointly announced Thursday that Rod Hartman is the 2025 recipient of the Dale and Brad Feeken Memorial Coaching Award. The winner is selected from nominations submitted from each school district. It’s awarded to someone who exemplifies the life-changing impact of great coaching.
Hartman has coached in Hastings since 1999. His past roles include work with American Legion baseball, St. Cecilia girls tennis, Adams Central girls tennis and Adams Central boys tennis. He is currently the head coach of the Adams Central girls and boys golf teams. He coached the Patriots boys tennis team to the 2010 Class B state championship.
Some of his nominators said:
“Coach Hartman is consistent in his discipline and actions, setting high expectations that student-athletes strive to exceed.”
“He has a unique ability to make every player feel seen—whether they’re a state contender or just starting out.”
“His players look up to him not only because of his knowledge of the game, but because he lives out the values he teaches—no excuses, high standards, and humility.”
The award honors the legacy of Dale and Brad Feeken. A news release says the father and son were beloved educators and coaches in Hastings and beyond. The award was created in 2024, shortly after Brad Feeken’s death in December 2023.
