WOODLAND PARK, Neb. --Two drivers were injured in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 35 and 844th Road (North Eastwood) near Woodland Park on Thursday morning.

The Stanton County Sheriff’s office reported that the accident occurred at approximately 7:53 a.m. A westbound Mustang SUV turned onto Highway 35 into the path of a northbound car. The collision caused the SUV to spin backwards, and the car veered off the roadway into the north ditch.

The driver of the SUV, and the driver of the car were both transported to Faith Regional Health Services by Norfolk Rescue.

Authorities noted that seatbelts were in use and multiple airbags deployed in both vehicles. The SUV was an electric vehicle, requiring extra precautions during the removal process.

The northbound lanes of Highway 35 were temporarily closed for about 45 minutes while the scene was cleared. Both vehicles were deemed total losses.

Hoskins/Woodland Park Fire and Stanton County Emergency Management assisted at the scene.

“Again, this is a great example of Seatbelts and Airbags lessening injuries,” stated Sheriff Mike Unger.
