Battle of the Badges blood drive using rivalry to benefit community
KEARNEY, Neb. - The Battle of the Badges friendly rivalry takes place Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Kearney Police Department and Kearney Volunteer Fire Department started their competition at noon on Tuesday, of who can recruit the most blood donors.
The Red Cross Kearney Chapter is holding the competition and all are welcome.
Red Cross organizers say this is a great way to help the community and contribute to the rivalry.
"I like meeting people and I like helping others," says Clara Castenada, the Drive Lead. "This helps a lot and the Red Cross helps in many ways."
Kevin Madsen, a donor, spoke of his competitive spirit.
"Well you know it's kind of a competition between the Tri-Cities and [so] I always pull for Kearney and hopefully we come out on top," said Madsen.
One donation can save up to three lives and the Red Cross encourages all able to donate during this event.
If you'd like to help your team claim bragging rights, stop in to the Red Cross Kearney Chapter Wednesday from 12 to 6.
