SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — Scottsbluff High School named Mary Sanchez as the new head coach of its boys and girls cross country teams for the 2025-2026 school year.

A 1994 graduate of SHS, Sanchez competed in both cross country and track during her time as a student-athlete and served as an assistant cross country coach for the past two seasons.

“We are excited for Mary and our student-athletes in the cross country program,” SHS Activities Director Nate Rock said. “Throughout the interview process, our team was impressed with Mary's vision for the future as well as her commitment to our strong cross country tradition. Her ability to build strong, positive relationships and passion for the sport will serve our student-athletes well.”

In addition to her coaching duties, Sanchez teaches Health Sciences at SHS and sponsors the school’s HOSA – Future Health Professionals chapter.

She replaces former head coach Aaron Carrizales.

The school congratulated Sanchez on her appointment and said it looks forward to the 2025 season under her leadership.
