KEARNEY, Neb. — One of Nebraska’s top high school basketball players will play his senior year out of state.

Jacob Webber of Kearney High announced on X Monday night that he will play at La Lumiere School during the next school year. La Lumiere is a boarding and day prep school in La Porte, Ind., which is between Chicago and South Bend, Ind.

Webber has several Div. 1 basketball scholarship offers from power conference schools including Nebraska, Creighton and Iowa. The 6-foot-6 small forward is listed as a three-star prospect by On3 and 247Sports.

Webber leaves Kearney High holding multiple school records for three-point shooting. The sharp shooter averaged 18 points per game as a sophomore and 21.7 ppg as a junior. Webber shot 42% from beyond the arc both seasons as a Bearcat and made 87 three-balls as a junior. He shot 90% from the free throw line this past season. Combined with senior Ben Johnson, Kearney possessed one of the most dynamic offensive duos in the state and made consecutive trips to district final games.

Webber grew up in Arizona and transferred to Kearney when his family moved to town ahead of his sophomore season. His dad, John, played for UNK and works as a skills coach.

La Lumiere plays a national schedule that includes other top prep schools from across the country. The Lakers won a national championship in 2017 and claim two national runner up finishes. The school’s basketball alumni include NBA players like Jaren Jackson Jr., Jordan Poole and Jaden Ivey.
