CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Severe thunderstorms roared across southeast Wyoming, the Nebraska Panhandle and northeastern Colorado Monday afternoon and evening, bringing flash flooding, damaging winds, large hail and multiple tornado sightings.

In Wyoming, flash flooding was reported north of Chugwater, where the Platte County Sheriff’s Office said water covered sections of Interstate 25 near mile marker 62. Nearby county roads were also affected. Around 5:50 p.m., emergency managers near Lingle reported creeks overflowing their banks. In Torrington, emergency officials said downed trees and widespread power outages occurred from thunderstorm winds shortly before 5:30 p.m.

In western Nebraska, a trained spotter reported ping pong ball size hail about 10 miles south-southwest of Bushnell in Kimball County at 5:39 p.m. Earlier, social media images showed half dollar size hail falling in Burns, Wyo.

Across the border in northeastern Colorado, the storm threat intensified. The National Weather Service in Denver confirmed multiple tornado reports Monday evening in Logan County, including sightings near Pawnee Pass and Logan Corners around 7:25 p.m. and 7:50 p.m. Storm chasers reported egg-size hail (2.00 inches) near Pawnee Pass, while trained spotters recorded half dollar size hail and hail-covered highways west of Stoneham in Weld County.

The storms were part of a widespread severe weather event that prompted numerous severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings. A severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect for much of the region through Monday night.

No injuries had been reported as of late Monday, though emergency officials urged caution with more showers and thunderstorms possible Tuesday.
