KIMBALL -- Kimball Health Services has been caring for the local communities for 75 years.

KHS opened its doors on August 21, 1950, with 33 beds, borrowed equipment, and a mission to serve the people of Kimball County and beyond.

Today, the hospital continues its mission in a brand new, state-of-the-art facility that opened on February 19, 2022, after almost two years of construction.

The hospital first opened after Kimball County citizens expressed the need for a county hospital and in 1944, voted in favor of a $90,000 bond to build one.

KHS Director of Public Relations Kerry Ferguson says: “KHS has certainly come a long way since the old Kimball County Hospital. Just about 15 months now in our new facility, we’re proud to serve Kimball and the surrounding communities in a 61,000-square-foot hospital designed to take us well into the future.”

The hospital plans to have an official celebration in August where they will look back on some of the dedicated health providers.

“Names like Shamberg, Plate, Childress, and Bush come to mind. Their commitment to rural healthcare shaped the legacy that continues to guide us today,” Ferguson said.
