Kearney middle school bands select for once-in-a-lifetime performance in Washington D.C.

KEARNEY, Neb.-- The Kearney Public Schools 8th Grade Band is set to perform at the 2025 National Veterans Salute in Washington D.C. on November 11.
The band, comprised of students from Horizon and Sunrise Middle Schools will begin at the Lincoln Memorial, then join a formal processional to the World War II Memorial.
Jason Mundorf, Superintendent of Kearney Public Schools says, "This is more than just a performance--it's an opportunity for our students to be part of a powerful national tribute," Superintendent Jason Mundorf said. "We are incredibly proud of their talent and the hard work of our music educators."
Band programs selected for this ceremony are personally recommended and chosen from a national database of exceptional directors and schools. The selection reflects the dedication, excellence, and growing reputation of Kearney's middle school music programs.
"This honor is one of the highest a middle school band can receive," Horizon Middle School's Band Director Stacy Bean said. "Our students have poured their hearts into their music, and now they get to use that talent to honor our veterans on a national stage. It's truly humbling and incredibly exciting."
