Nebraska high school state golf roundup: Elkhorn North claims Class B in Gering

GERING, Neb. – Elkhorn North captured the Class B team championship and junior Andrew Nietfeldt edged York’s Jaxson Hinze in a playoff to win the individual title at the 2025 NSAA Boys State Golf Championships at Monument Shadows Golf Course in Gering.
Elkhorn North posted rounds of 307 and 298 for a 36-hole total of 605, finishing at 29-over-par as a team to secure the top spot. Norris placed second at 617, followed by Lincoln Pius X at 625 and Bennington at 626. Scottsbluff finished fifth with a two-day total of 628.
Nietfeldt and Hinze both finished the tournament at 3-under-par 141. Nietfeldt carded rounds of 70 and 71, while Hinze posted a 73 on day one and a tournament-low 68 in the final round. Nietfeldt secured the title on the first playoff hole.
Gretna East senior William Barth placed third at even-par 144. Waverly’s Grey Klucas and Elkhorn’s Grady Friedrichsen tied for fourth at 148.
Two golfers tied for sixth at 150: Karter Negus of Central City and Kaden Ellis of Elkhorn North. McCook’s Reid Loop was eighth with a 151. Rounding out the top 10 were Brenson Underwood of Adams Central and Tyler Nietfeldt of Elkhorn North, both finishing at 153.
Scottsbluff freshman Brett Elwell tied for 11th at 154, along with four other golfers: Bennington’s Austin Jochum, Pius X’s Henry Stempson, Holdrege’s Mason Schroder and Norris’s Cooper Rice.
Kearney Catholic wins Class C behind top-two individual finishers
GRAND ISLAND - Kearney Catholic secured the 2025 NSAA Class C Boys State Golf Championship on Thursday, thanks to a dominant performance from its top golfers and a strong second-round team score at Jackrabbit Run Golf Course in Grand Island.
The Stars finished with a two-day total of 593, 17-over-par, following rounds of 302 and 291. They were led by junior Nash Malone, who won the individual title at 5-under-par (139), and senior Tate Redinger, who placed second at 4-under (140). Archbishop Bergan finished runner-up in the team standings at 602, while Norfolk Catholic took third with a total of 627.
Archbishop Bergan freshman Jackson Luebbe placed third individually at 141, shooting 71 and 70 over the two rounds.
Sutton’s Jaydn Friesen finished fourth at 146, followed by a tie for fifth between Milford’s Zephyr Mowinkel and Doniphan-Trumbull’s Jett Hollister at 148. Norfolk Catholic’s Callen Marshall also finished in the top 10, tying for seventh with Archbishop Bergan’s Boston Bojanski.
Archbishop Bergan placed three golfers in the top 10, including Trey Mooney, who was ninth at 150. Grand Island Central Catholic’s Jack Alberts rounded out the top 10 with a 151.
Creighton captures Class D; Wilmes wins individual crown in playoff
COLUMBUS, Neb. – Creighton claimed the 2025 NSAA Class D Boys State Golf Championship on Thursday at Quail Run Golf Course, edging Loomis by 17 strokes for the team title.
The Bulldogs finished with a two-day score of 683 after rounds of 342 and 341. Loomis took runner-up honors with a 700, followed by North Central at 701.
Creighton junior Calvin Wilmes won the individual championship in a playoff over Cambridge’s Micah Gerlach. Both players finished at 10-over-par 154. Wilmes shot rounds of 73 and 81, while Gerlach carded consecutive rounds of 77.
Tyson Essex of Loomis climbed the leaderboard with a second-round 72, finishing third at 12-over 156. Red Cloud’s Lukas Armstrong placed fourth at 159.
Rounding out the top five was Brady Haake of Sandhills/Thedford at 164.
