Wyoming high school state track & field roundup: Pine Bluffs girls place seventh, boys eighth in Class 2A
CASPER, Wyo. — The Pine Bluffs girls and boys track teams both secured top-eight finishes at the 2025 WHSAA Class 2A State Track and Field Championships, held May 22–24 at Kelly Walsh High School.
The Lady Hornets placed seventh in the team standings with 38 points, led by senior Jessica Hoffman, who captured a state title in the discus with a throw of 122 feet, 10 inches and added a fifth-place finish in the shot put (34-00.25). Pine Bluffs also earned six points in the pole vault as Hattie Lerwick placed third (8-00.00), and three more in the same event from Kierstyn Klinginsmith, who tied for fifth.
Junior Reese Graves advanced to the finals in the 100-meter dash but was disqualified on a false start. She bounced back to help the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams to fifth-place finishes. Avery Gray scored two points in the triple jump with a mark of 32-02.25. Kaitlynn Schnell ran in both the 800 and 4x800-meter relay, adding depth for the Hornets and clearing 4-07.00 in the high jump.
The Pine Bluffs boys team finished eighth overall with 29.5 points, highlighted by a state championship in the pole vault from senior Justin Lerwick, who cleared 12-06.00. Ayden Soto earned silver in the triple jump (40-06.25) and teammate Jesus Solis placed fifth (40-03.00). Solis also helped lead the 4x100 relay to a fifth-place finish and earned 10th place in the long jump.
Tanner Long scored in multiple events, placing second in the high jump (5-06.00) and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (43.92), while also contributing to the sprint relay team. The Hornets rounded out their scoring with Brayden Freeburg’s sixth-place finish in the pole vault (10-06.00) and Eli Currie’s eighth-place tie in the same event.
Torrington’s Brooklyn Asmus claims double gold; Burns boys crack Top 10 at in 3A
CASPER — Torrington junior Brooklyn Asmus continued her standout season with a pair of individual state titles and a relay championship at the 2025 WHSAA Class 3A State Track and Field Championships, helping the Lady Blazers to a fifth-place finish with 60 points.
Asmus won the girls 100-meter dash in 12.43 seconds and followed with a 200-meter title in 25.38 seconds. She also anchored the Blazers' 4x100-meter relay to victory (49.41), joining teammates Natalie Hawes, Illyana Ponce and Trishell Pontarolo. Torrington also took third in the 1600-meter sprint medley and saw freshman Illyana Ponce place fifth in the 400 and 12th in the 800.
Natalie Hawes added individual points with a seventh-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles. Teryn Stokes (fourth, shot put) and Trishell Pontarolo (fifth, long jump; second, triple jump) rounded out Torrington’s top-eight scorers.
In the boys division, Torrington placed 16th with four points. Drew Kramer finished seventh in the triple jump and also competed in the 100 and 200. Evan Hellus added an eighth-place finish in the triple jump and just missed scoring in the long jump. The Blazers' 4x100 relay team placed eighth.
Burns High School’s boys squad scored 45 points to place eighth in the team standings. Zane Howes led the Broncs with a third-place finish in the 100 meters and fifth in the 200. Hunter Munson was sixth in the 200 and third in the 400, while Shaw Martin was seventh in the 100 and sixth in the 400. The Broncs’ 4x400 relay team added a fourth-place finish.
Zach Austin contributed across multiple events, placing fifth in both hurdle events and helping Burns score valuable relay points. Rutley Hansen placed fifth in the pole vault.
The Lady Broncs scored 10 points to finish 13th overall. Brynn Bach was a state champion in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet.
Lander Valley won the girls 3A team title with 149 points, while Lovell claimed the boys crown with 117.
