DENVER — The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southwestern Logan County and east central Weld County in northeastern Colorado.

The warning remains in effect until 5:15 p.m. MDT Friday.

At 4:30 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located 11 miles north of Stoneham, or 28 miles west of Sterling, moving southeast at 20 mph. The weather service classified this as a destructive storm, specifically for areas 14 miles north of Stoneham.

Radar indicated the storm is producing baseball-size hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph.

Severe injuries are possible for people and animals caught outdoors. The storm is expected to cause shattered windows and extensive damage to roofs, siding, and vehicles.

Communities in the path include Stoneham, Pawnee Pass and Willard.

Residents are urged to take immediate shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built structure. The storm may quickly produce a tornado without warning.
