Sidney boys place seventh at state track & field meet

OMAHA – The Sidney boys capped their season with a seventh-place team finish, and multiple athletes from western Nebraska found their way to the podium on the final day of the NSAA Class B State Track and Field Championships Thursday at Burke Stadium.
Sidney’s Landon Riddle sprinted to a third-place finish in the 100 meters with a personal-best 10.82 seconds, while teammate Lance Holly placed eighth. Holly also earned sixth in the 400 meters (49.97) and anchored the Red Raiders' 4x100 relay to a silver medal alongside Riddle, Owen Gillham and Rhys Dorcey in 42.47 seconds.
Sidney’s high jumpers impressed with Keian Kaiser and Kash Knobbe finishing second and fifth respectively. Riddle added a seventh-place mark in the long jump.
Chase County’s Noah Rau highlighted field events, winning the boys discus with a throw of 203-09. His throw broke the Class B and All-Class record of 203-06 set by Andy Meyer of Superior in 1989.
Gering's Creighton Beals earned fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (40.07). Scottsbluff’s Daniel Young earned third in the long jump (22-11.25)
On the girls’ side, Ogallala senior Story Rasby won the 400 meters with a time of 56.12 and helped the Indians to a third-place finish in the 4x400 (3:55.25). Shaydyn Rasby, just a freshman, took fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.05) and was runner-up in the 300 hurdles (44.11).
Other results include, Chadron’s Addisyn Gruver leapt 17-03.50 to place fourth in the girls long jump. Chase County’s Emily Randall placed eighth in the 800 meters (2:21.09) and helped the 4x400 and 4x800 teams finish seventh and eighth, respectively. Gering’s Jaxie John earned bronze in the girls shot put with a mark of 42-06.25.
Bennington won the girls team title with 80 points. Waverly was crowned the boys champion with 73 points.
Classes C and D compete Friday and Saturday at Burke Stadium. News Channel Nebraska TV will have live coverage of the finals on Saturday.
