MISSION, S.D. - A 22-year-old Mission man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison after attacking a person with an axe on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation. Charles Fast Horse Jr., age 22, was convicted of Assault With a Dangerous Weapon. 

According to court documents, the attack happened on April 28, 2024. Fast Horse was riding in a vehicle with several people, including the victim. When the group stopped at a residence in Mission, Fast Horse pulled out a knife and threatened the victim. The victim fled the vehicle, but Fast Horse chased after him with an axe he found in the yard and struck him multiple times, causing life-threatening injuries.

Fast Horse was indicted by a federal grand jury in Aug. 2024. He pleaded guilty in February.
