NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — May 18, 2025 — The National Weather Service in North Platte has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Garden County in the Nebraska Panhandle. The warning remains in effect until 6:45 p.m. MDT.

At 6:06 p.m., radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms stretching from 11 miles north of Lisco to just south of Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge and near Oshkosh. The storms are moving north at 45 miles per hour.

The storms are producing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and hail up to the size of half dollars. Forecasters warn of hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Communities and landmarks in the storm’s path include Oshkosh, Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge, Rackett, Dogtown Flats, Deer Lake, Britton Lake, Kincaid Lake, Wild Horse Flats, Richardson Lake, Miles Lake, Mumper, Jerry Lake, Adams Flats, Tralnor Lake, Sugar Loaf Hill, and Bluewater Battlefield State Historical Park.

Residents in the warning area are urged to seek immediate shelter in a sturdy structure and move to an interior room on the lowest floor.

A Tornado Watch remains in effect for the Nebraska Panhandle until 8:00 p.m.
