Severe Thunderstorms Target Kimball, Banner, and Eastern Laramie Counties

KIMBALL — May 18, 2025 — The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Kimball County and southern Banner County in the Nebraska Panhandle, as well as eastern Laramie County in southeastern Wyoming. The warning is in effect until 5:00 p.m. MDT.
At 4:08 p.m., radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms stretching from near Pine Bluffs Municipal Airport to 11 miles northwest of Westplains. The storms were moving north at 40 miles per hour.
These storms are producing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and hail up to the size of nickels. Forecasters warn of potential damage to roofs, siding, trees, and unsecured outdoor objects.
Communities in the path of the storms include Kimball, Pine Bluffs, Dix, Albin, Bushnell, and key locations such as Oliver Reservoir, Panorama Point, and the Kimball County Fairgrounds.
A Tornado Watch remains in effect for the Nebraska Panhandle through 8:00 p.m. MDT. Residents are urged to take immediate shelter inside a sturdy building and move to an interior room on the lowest floor away from windows.
