Potter unveils 'Pixie Portal Path' artwork
POTTER -- Residents were invited to display their creative side in the latest effort to brighten the Potter community.
Jennifer Thomas, representing the Tin Roof Creative District, introduced this year's outdoor artwork.
"We have our summer art project up on display in downtown Potter. We have all these little Pixie Portal Paths, little doors around town and you can follow the path and see the books that go with each of the doors," Thomas said.
She said the books were painted by 150 volunteers, and there are 160 books on display.
"We had 150 volunteers come paint. They painted upstairs in the art loft, I went to the local high school, the fifth and sixth grade art classes, and everybody came and painted. We had the FFA kids come and paint. We had a youth group, Mommy and Me class, a bunch of neighbors and friends, and anybody that stood still long enough that we could grab and say 'come help us paint' they volunteered and they showed up and we got all these bricks done. We've been painting since the end of January," Thomas said.
The "books" are bricks painted in the likeness of the artist's favorite book.
"We wanted to incorporate another outdoor art display for our community this year. Last year we did the yard bomb, and that was fun and added a pop of color downtown. This year we decided to do the Pixie Portal doors, little fairy doors, and we also wanted to paint the bricks. So we incorporated them both together and it looks really nice around town," Thomas said.
The Tin Roof Creative District got certified about a year and a half ago, according to Thomas. Tin Roof is in reference to the Tin Roof Sundae famed at the Potter Sundry, and the number of tin roofs found in Potter buildings, according to Thomas. She said it is also in reference to the character of the community.
