Columbus public schools close option enrollment amid capacity concerns

COLUMBUS, Neb. -- In a decision that's sure to spark discussion, Columbus Public Schools (CPS) has announced it will close option enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year.
This move was made during the May 12, 2025, Board of Education meeting, and comes after the district determined it has reached full capacity across all programs, classes, buildings, and grade levels.
The decision follows a thorough review of option enrollment applications submitted before the March 15 deadline.
According to CPS Board of Education member Marv Zoucha, “The district is committed to providing the best possible education for its current students while adhering to state guidelines. I will continue working with the rest of the school board and Superintendent to address the future needs of our students and community.”
