SIDNEY -- The driver of a van that collided with Sonnys Super Foods in January appeared in Cheyenne County Court this week.

Jessic Wheelock, 30, of Sidney, appeared in Cheyenne County District Court to face charges of Assaulting a Police Officer and Flight to Avoid Arrest. Charges were amended to Assault-Cause Bodily Injury (Class 1 Misdemeanor), and Operate Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest (Class 1 Misdemeanor).

He entered a No Contest plea to both charges before The Honorable Judge Derek C. Weimer. He was found guilty of both charges. 

Sentencing is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 11 in Cheyenne County District Courtroom 1.

At about 3:48 a.m. January 24, a Chevrolet Venture van driven by Wheelock  was traveling northbound on 11th Avenue from Village Way at a high rate of speed, according to the accident report.

Officers reported traveling at 93 mph in pursuit of the van northbound at about Parkland Drive and 11th Avenue. The driver attempted to slow the van at the junction of 11th Avenue and 10th Avenue. The van continued north, striking the west curb of 10th Avenue near Soaring Health Chiropractic before colliding with The Rolling Pin Bakery and Sonnys Super Foods.

Wheelock was transported to Sidney Regional Medical Center with a possible head injury.
