BAYARD — Kimball High School claimed both the boys and girls team titles at the Nebraska School Activities Association Class D-9 District Track and Field Meet in Bayard on Wednesday.

The Longhorn boys racked up 163 points to pull away from second-place Bayard, which finished with 121. Garden County, Potter-Dix and Hay Springs rounded out the top five. In the girls division, Kimball scored 97.5 points, edging Bayard with 89.5 and Leyton with 84.

Kimball senior Noe Trevino helped power the boys team by winning the 100-meter dash in 11.54 seconds, the 200 in 23.47 and running a leg on the winning 4x100-meter relay team. Jacob Wendt added runner-up finishes in both sprint races, and Braxton Miller won the 1600 and took second in the triple jump. Derek Russell dominated the throws for Kimball, taking gold in both the shot put (51 feet, 6 inches) and discus (154-8).

Bayard's Logan Metz had a standout day, winning the long jump (21-7.5) and triple jump (41-9) while placing in the hurdles and running on the Tigers’ victorious 4x400 and 4x800 relays. Bayard’s Noah Manka added a win in the high jump and runner-up honors in the long jump.

The Leyton girls were led by senior Zaili Benish, who swept the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, won the 400 and anchored the winning 4x400 relay team. Shawnee Gamble added wins in the 100 and 200 for Leyton.

Kimball’s girls secured the team title through balanced scoring across multiple events. Rachel Berger earned top-three finishes in sprint events and the pole vault, while JaLeigh Bohac swept the discus (116-1) and placed third in shot put. Addisyn Olson cleared 5-1 to win the high jump.

Crawford’s Keslyn Vogel won both the long jump (16-4) and triple jump (32-8.25), while Bayard’s Emilee Houchin added district gold in the 800 and 1600 and tied for the top spot in the pole vault with Kimball’s Clarika Hottell and Berger.

Top finishers in each event advance to the NSAA Class D State Track and Field Championships May 23–24 at Omaha Burke Stadium.
