DENVER, Colo. — May 14, 2025 — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Logan, Phillips, Sedgwick, and Washington counties in northeastern Colorado through 6 p.m. MDT.

At 5:22 p.m., a fast-moving line of severe thunderstorms was located from 8 miles east of Peetz to near Elba — stretching from 27 miles northeast of Sterling to 19 miles south of Akron — and racing east at 60 mph.

Trained spotters reported wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour, tree damage, and downed powerlines west of Brush around 5:10 p.m. Broken limbs 3 to 4 inches in diameter were reported, and multiple weather stations confirmed wind gusts between 60–70 mph.

The storm system is capable of widespread wind damage, including to trees, mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. Towns in the path include Sterling, Akron, Haxtun, Fleming, Peetz, Merino, Sedgwick, and Crook.

Officials warn that wind damage may occur before any rain or lightning is visible. Residents should take shelter immediately inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows.
