Vehicle crash on Illinois Street downs power line, sends driver to hospital
SIDNEY, Neb. — A single-vehicle crash on Illinois Street Sunday evening sent one woman to the hospital and knocked down a power line, forcing a temporary road closure in west Sidney.
Emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 7:42 p.m. to the area between 20th Avenue and 21st Avenue after a light blue Chrysler Sebring reportedly left the roadway and struck infrastructure near the south side of Safeway.
The vehicle reportedly jumped the curb before coming to rest. The impact caused a power line to fall across the area, prompting authorities to block off the roadway.
The driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Sidney Regional Medical Center by ambulance. Her condition is unknown.
Sidney Police and utility crews remained on scene, and Illinois Street was closed until the downed line could be safely cleared. Drivers were urged to avoid the area.
The Sidney Police Department, Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Sidney Volunteer Fire Department and the City of Sidney Electrical Crew also responded to the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
