Former Sidney resident ties camping to online efficiency

LINCOLN -- Stacy and Dustin Dam started a business designed to simplify the outdoor camping experience.

“The whole idea is to make the experience of getting a campsite much easier than it is,” Dustin Dam said in a telephone interview.

He said there are campgrounds that still use a “cash box.” The cash box is a honor system where a camper can pay for a campsite by depositing the fee in the cash box. One of the problems is the cash box is a potential target for theft and vandalism, according to Dam.

"One of the reasons I don't think it completely stupid to start an outdoor business is because I've seen it done," he said.

They started Set Your Sites in 2024.

Set Your Sites is the recipient of the 2024 Innovation Business of the Year for revolutionizing campground management. Stacy and Dustin Dam created Set Your Sites to provide real-time availability checks, mobile payments, and Wi-Fi services for campers, solving a long-standing issue in the industry, according to a press release from Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen’s office.

They got into the NMotion Accelerator in Lincoln. NMotion Accelerator is a program offering business coaching, funding and networking opportunities to entrepreneurs.

He said he connected with Sidney and Cheyenne County E3 because he is, about a year into the business, looking at expanding ideally with employees who understand camping.
