LINCOLN, Neb. - For just about any college football player, the end goal is to make it to the next level and that includes Kearney's own Heinrich Haarberg.
The quarterback turned tight end is wrapping up his first spring practice with his new title and as he mentioned on a recent edition of the Doug & Daddy Show on ESPN Tri Cities, he felt like the transition was a necessary one in order to achieve his ultimate goal of the NFL.
"It was an awesome transition honestly for me," Haarberg said. It's something I wanted to do for awhile, as cool as it was to start a season at quarterback for Nebraska, but I knew from the time I started playing football I knew I wanted to play in the NFL.
During his time as starter for Nebraska, Haarberg went 5-1, but lost the job to Dylan Raiola, who entered as the number one quarterback recruit in the nation. Haarberg would see the field in different forms in 2024, even scoring a touchdown in a win over Wisconsin.
But Haarberg wasn't the only member of the Huskers to lose a job - Marcus Satterfield was demoted to tight end's coach after a season and a half as Nebraska's offensive coordinator, a position now held by Dana Holgorsen. With Satterfield now serving as Haarberg's position coach, their relationship has grown.
"That's what Coach Satt and I have really adopted," Haarberg said. "You can't sit in the past and think about what you could have done different, if you do that you just won't get anywhere else in life. So I think, him and I having that attitude to just keep moving forward is really special to me."
Haarberg averaged 3.4 yards per attempt on the ground in 2024, scoring one touchdown.
