DONIPHAN, Neb. — Sara Allard of the Sidney Sharpshooters claimed the top spot in the ladies’ division at the 55th annual Cornhusker Trap Shoot on Friday, leading the field with a score of 72 out of 75 targets in the 16-yard competition.

Competing against more than 1,500 participants from across Nebraska, Allard was the top female shooters at the state’s largest trap shooting event, hosted at the Heartland Public Shooting Park. Her performance secured her the ladies’ individual title ahead of Louisville 4-H’s Allie Hiatt and Blair’s Jaydyn Backman, who each scored 71.

Allard's win came in a tightly contested field where only two shooters — Carson Tomasek of Stanton 4-H Shooters and George Lee of Norris — posted perfect 75s on the day. Tomasek later won a shoot-off to claim the individual overall title.

Allard’s score places her among the top shooters heading into Saturday’s 75-target handicap round, which will determine the overall Cornhusker Cup champion based on two-day combined scores.

In team competition, Norris One won the high school team title with a score of 359, while Wilber 5 Clovers 4-H 1 took home the 4-H team crown. Ashland 4-H Syren was the top ladies’ team.

The Cornhusker Trap Shoot, organized by Nebraska Game and Parks, continues Saturday in Doniphan with final rounds of competition.
