LINCOLN — Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers announced this week Paul Schaub will join the Attorney General’s Office as an assistant attorney general, serving in the newly established Ogallala office.

Schaub, a former Cheyenne County Attorney and interim Deuel County Attorney, brings extensive experience in criminal prosecution, including more than 60 jury trials. As county attorney, he also advised law enforcement agencies across western Nebraska.

“Paul Schaub is a first-class prosecutor who will help anchor our Ogallala office and expand our reach into Greater Nebraska,” said Hilgers. “I’m grateful to the Legislature, and in particular to Sen. Rob Clements and Sen. Paul Strommen, for supporting this long-term vision.”

The Ogallala office is the first physical location for the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office west of Lincoln. The expansion was first announced in October 2024 to better serve the legal and public safety needs of western Nebraska. Schaub is the first attorney appointed to the new office.

Schaub earned his Juris Doctor from Creighton University and has been recognized by the Nebraska Association of County Officials and the Nebraska Intergovernmental Risk Management Association for his leadership and service to local governments. He recently served as president of the Nebraska County Attorneys Association Board and was a board member for the CAPstone Child Advocacy Center.

“Paul served Cheyenne County with dedication and professionalism, and we’re excited to welcome him to Keith County,” said Sen. Strommen, who represents District 47.

Schaub stepped down as Cheyenne County Attorney in January after accepting an opportunity in Weld County, Colorado.
