Potter-Dix Early Learning Facility to host summer camp

POTTER -- The Potter-Dix Early Learning Facility (PD-ELF) is hosting its summer camp starting May 19 for kids ages Pre-K – third grade.
The 13-week-long camp is open to anyone in the surrounding communities and beyond. As long as the parents are willing to travel to the school to drop off their kids, they are welcome.
PD-ELF Director Laura Franzen says, “It's going to be a learning environment incorporated through hands-on activities like Montessori style, that’s what we’re dedicating our summer camp around.”
It will be held at Potter High School from May 19 through August 15 and will be Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Each week will center around a different theme, a few of them being space, zoo, water world, gardening, and around the world.
Franzen says she hopes to incorporate field trips around town and surrounding communities to correspond with the themed week.
She would like to take the kids on a trip to the Scottsbluff Zoo during zoo week and to museums to learn about the subject pertaining to that week’s theme. She also plans to include the kids in the summer reading program at the Potter Public Library.
“We want to incorporate our community along with it so that the kids get an understanding of what our community is about, get to learn new things about the area, and gain new experiences,” Franzen says. “We want to give these kids an environment to continue using their minds throughout the summer and have an electronic-free zone.”
Parents can register their child anytime throughout the summer by filling out the Google Forms registration form. You can also reach out to Laura Franzen at 307-401-1383 for any questions.
