KEARNEY, Neb. - A Central Nebraska chapter of a national non-profit organization is reinforcing its message of healthy living with summer quickly approaching.

The Kearney area YMCA will be hosting its Healthy Kids Day event this Saturday and features free admission for the general public.

The Healthy Kids Day event lasts from 1-4 p.m. and will have dozens of vendors and activities like active physical play, arts and nutrition education for people of all ages to enjoy.

Officials say the event is designed to inspire kids to get active, while also teaching families how to create routines at home that support mental and physical health.

"The purpose behind the event is to promote healthy and active children to get ready for the summer months. And if you decide to join the YMCA, the join fee will actually be waived that day so come on out we'd love to have you," said Kearney YMCA Development Director Courtney Burbach.

No registration is required and the "Y" will have free admission all day.
