Kearney unveils new water resource recovery facility on Earth Day
KEARNEY, Neb. - A Central Nebraska city is holding tours for its brand-new state of the art facility that is set to keep the local ecosystem healthy.
Tuesday the City of Kearney held a grand opening for its new Water Resource Recovery Facility in order to highlight the new upgrades.
The event was strategically planned for Earth Day due to the positive benefit the facility will have on mother nature locally.
"It was about time," said project manager Chris Miller. "It was needed because about every eleven to twelve years regulations change and the population grows."
Employees added that the city will be better suited to treat waste water better than ever before, and will be sending out cleaner water into Turkey Creek which feeds into the North Platte River.
"It's a good day today, giving the tour is really nice. We actually started this in 2015, when we started seeing some problems with equipment," said Miller.
The utilities department for the city helped guide citizens around the facility that took almost three years to construct.
