Beatrice Police arrest motorist for alleged fentanyl possession

BEATRICE – Beatrice Police have arrested a female on suspicion of possessing fentanyl. The arrest of 68-year-old Viola Kennedy came after police made an overnight traffic stop.
Just before midnight, an officer observed a Chevrolet Astro van pull out of the school administration building parking lot and cross over two lanes of traffic onto Elk Street. An officer noticed one of the signal lights not functioning on the vehicle. The driver was pulled over at 8th and Elk.
After printing an equipment repair ticket, the officer was granted permission to search the vehicle, after asking if there was anything illegal in the vehicle.
Located in the passenger door was a syringe and needle…with a liquid that field-tested positive as fentanyl.
Kennedy was taken to the Gage County jail, where she was booked for possession of a hazardous controlled substance and for possession of drug paraphernalia.
