KEARNEY, Neb. - A central Nebraska university is making a change to its football team's coaching staff following a recent departure.

The University of Nebraska at Kearney football team will be making a change on offense following the announcement that one of their coordinators is leaving.

Former Quarterbacks coach and Offensive Coordinator Colby Ellis is now a secondary analyst at Oklahoma State, according to his social media accounts.

UNK's head football coach Ryan Held recently spoke on the Doug and Daddy show to announce that he will be calling plays this season, along with coaching the quarterbacks.

"Coach Ellis and I have been working together for many years, and we wish him the best. He's a family to me, love him like a brother but sometimes things come up," said head coach Ryan Day.

"I'm going to take over play calling and I'm going to coach the quarterbacks, and then I'm just going to go and try to find the best coach that we can that to replace that spot. We're going to keep the same offense, we're going to keep doing what we're doing," he said.

Ellis had previously played two seasons for Oklahoma State, and came to UNK with Coach Held in 2023.

The Lopers will play their Spring football game Saturday, April 26th.
