UPDATE 4/19/25 via Associated Press: FREMONT, Neb. (AP) — Three people died when a small airplane crashed into a river in eastern Nebraska Friday night, authorities said.

The plane was traveling along the Platte River and crashed into the water south of Fremont at 8:15 p.m., Sgt. Brie Frank of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office said during a news conference.

The bodies of three people were recovered, Frank confirmed.

Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the deceased.

The sheriff’s office said the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will oversee the investigation near Fremont, located about 37 miles west of Omaha.

FREMONT, Neb. — Search and rescue crews are on the scene of a plane crash on the Platte River south of Fremont on Friday night.

Details are unclear right now, but video from just after 8:00 p.m. showed the wreckage of a small plane in the Platte River. The crash happened southwest of Fremont near Big Island Road.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media at 9:26 p.m. and confirmed the crash. The post advised that la media staging will exist to the east of Hormel Board Ramp on Ridgeland Ave. The sheriff’s office is asking that the community avoid the area to allow law enforcement officers to work.

Video from the scene showed airboats from multiple agencies on site.

There is no word yet on how many people were aboard the plane or if anyone has been found.
