Potter-Dix leads area schools at State Speech in Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb. - The 2025 Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) State Speech Championships took place this week at Kearney High School in Kearney, Neb.
Potter-Dix had a Class D1 state champion in Jaxson Chase. His presentation in Oral Interpretation Humorous Prose sealed a gold medal for the Coyotes. Potter-Dix also had a runner-up finish with Monique Trejo and Jaxson Chase getting silver in duet acting. Dru Weimer, also of Potter-Dix, was fourth in informative speaking. The Coyotes were seventh as a team.
Other local results include South Platte's Quinten Koenen finishing fourth in Class D1 Extemporaneous Speaking. For Bridgeport, Mara Soto got sixth in Class C1 Oral Interpretation of Poetry and Katie Eckhardt placing sixth in Class C1 Program Oral Interpretation. Shawnee Gamble, of Leyton, placed third in Serious Pros.
Gering and Ogallala finished sixth and seventh in the Class B team standings.
