Eagles Soar Back Into State Title Game with Strong Second Half Against Mustangs

LINCOLN, NE - The Johnson-Brock boys basketball team will look for its third-straight state title on Saturday morning after corralling the McCool Junction Mustangs on Friday, 53-36, as heard on B103.
Johnson-Brock started slowly, falling behind in the opening minutes before scratching their way back into a tie at halftime, 18-18. Things were completely different after the break, as the Eagles started connecting from downtown & turned up the defense to pull away thanks to an 18-2 third quarter.
The Eagles out-shot the Mustangs overall, 36-26%, and hit twice as many three-pointers (8-4), but the biggest difference was on the glass. Johnson-Brock held a 38-21 lead in rebounding, including a 13-4 lead in offensive boards, and they ended up with a 19-2 lead in second-chance points.
Camden Dalinghaus dropped in 14 points and snared seven rebounds for J-B, while Casen Dalinghaus & Brody Koehler each hit for 13. Koehler added 13 rebounds for the double-double. MJ's lone player in double figures was Mapieu Kouchinin with 13, while Carson McDonald finished with nine.
The Mustangs will play for third place on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at Lincoln Southwest, while Johnson-Brock will try to make it three crowns in-a-row when they clash with either Howells-Dodge or Bancroft-Rosalie at 9 a.m. Saturday from Pinnacle Bank Arena.
