Appliances, drones, and golf cart among items missing from Gordon home in bizarre incident

GORDON, Neb. - Imagine walking into your home only to find nearly everything gone—your appliances, furniture, and even a golf cart. That’s exactly what happened to Angi Goings of Gordon on Feb. 28.
Goings, who primarily lives in South Dakota but still owns her former home in Gordon, stopped by to check on the property Friday and was stunned to find it nearly emptied. Her stove, washer, dryer, bedroom set, deep freezer, golf cart, snowblower, and two 65-inch TVs were all missing.
“I figured someone came in and cleaned me out,” Goings told News Channel Nebraska.
She quickly left the house and called police. Neighbors provided photos of a red Suburban and a U-Haul trailer used to haul the items away, along with details about the two people seen moving them.
“My neighbors assumed I was renting the house,” said Goings. “I had told one of my neighbors that I was thinking about renting it out, so they weren’t suspicious.”
Initially, she believed her house had been burglarized, but as she noticed strange details, she began to suspect a foreclosure company had mistakenly cleared out the wrong home.
“The whole thing is just weird. It didn’t make sense. We’re thinking it’s a foreclosure company that has the wrong address,” Goings said.
Some of those odd details included a sign-in sheet left on the kitchen counter, changed locks, and food carefully thrown away from the fridge. Even more unusual, the intruders winterized the pipes.
“If it was a legitimate burglary, they wouldn’t have probably taken the time to winterize my pipes,” said Goings.
Since posting photos of the U-Haul and Suburban on Facebook, Goings said numerous people in Gordon have reached out, saying they saw the individuals around town, eating at restaurants and stopping for gas.
“They weren’t hiding, which also seems unusual,” Goings said.
Goings has since learned that a similar address in Gordon is in foreclosure, adding to suspicions of a mix-up. Gordon police are actively investigating, having traced the U-Haul as a local rental that was returned in Lexington, Nebraska.
Goings also confirmed that her house is not in foreclosure.
