Simplot fertilizer facility officially open at Adams Industries
BROWSON -- The Panhandle community met Wednesday to celebrate a major agricultural investment in Cheyenne county.
Adams Industries and Simplot partnered to build a liquid fertilizer plant northwest of Sidney.
Wednesday's celebration brought Simplot company representatives, Adams Industries staff, growers and the community to celebrate with a ribbon cutting by the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce.
Adams Industries President and CEO Zach Adams thanked Simplot for its role in the new facility.
"I want to start our by thanking Simplot. This has been a great partnership for many years. Most of your don't know we've been working with Simplot since 2000 when we originally purchased the property," Adams said at Wednesday's ribbon cutting.
Adams said the multi-million dollar facility is the result of a community effort.
"There's a lot of people and companies we definitely want to give a shout-out. Locally here, we got a lot of support from the commissioners, the Village of Potter, the City of Sidney, Platte Valley Bank. Thank you for helping us bring the vision to life. Without you guys, we'd still be stirring dirt and trying to figure out how this is going to happen," he said.
Chelsea Schneider, Simplot Location Manager, said the facility is a big asset to the community and the region.
"We got Simplot supporting us. It's been a long road. It's here. We're ready to go. Anybody from the community, Cheyenne County. It's an amazing facility. It's going to be a great impact to everybody around," she said.
Farmers from the Nebraska Panhandle and surrounding regions now have 24/7 access to high-quality liquid fertilizer. The facility represents a long-term partnership between the two companies and brings new flexibility and efficiency to the agricultural industry in western Nebraska, northern Colorado and eastern Wyoming.
The $20 million facility, the only one of its kind until Hastings, Neb., features real-time fertilizer mixing, rapid distribution capabilities and has created 10 new jobs at Adams and three new jobs at Simplot, with additional jobs expected to be added. With three loading bays, the site can load up to 18 semi-tractor-trailers per hour.
