HASTINGS, Neb. - People flying in and out of Hastings will soon see improvements to its Municipal Airport following a new resolution agreed upon by the city.

The Hastings city council on Monday unanimously approved a resolution that will enter the city into an agreement with state and federal aviation agencies in order to improve airport conditions.

The agreement helps secure a federal grant that would provide 95% of the funds required for improving the airport’s apron, which officials describe as an “airplane parking lot,” meaning most of the construction will be repavement of areas where planes dock and load passengers.

Officials said the aprons currently in place are in “pretty bad shape,” and that the improvements will enhance the airport’s functionality for both local and visiting travelers.

The money has already been put in the budget and the project is currently out for bid.
