SIDNEY, Neb. — 987 The Big Boy and Cheyenne County Country are shifting into high gear with a giveaway that could put a brand-new John Deere Z315E Ztrak riding lawn mower in the hands of one lucky listener.

The 5th Annual Off the Rails contest challenges participants to guess how far the zero-turn mower will travel on a single tank of gas from Kimball to Sidney. The closest guess to the nearest tenth of a mile wins the mower, courtesy of Sutton Home Gallery, Maddox Motor Company, the Logan County Fair & Rodeo, The Rusty Bucket Pub & Grub and Adams Industries.

Listeners can lock in their guesses before Friday, April 5, by signing up in person at select sponsor locations.

The contest builds up to Wednesday, April 9, when radio station staff members drive the mower in a convoy with the Nebraska State Patrol east on Highway 30 until it runs out of gas, with listeners able to watch and follow along in real time.

“Over the last four years of doing this contest, we had requests from listeners to perhaps move the contest to the spring so people could win the mower before lawn season started,” Morning Show Host on The Big Boy Hunter Arterburn said. “We were able to honor that request and are thrilled to be able to partner with a great group of local businesses to make it happen.”

Listeners are encouraged to enter now and stay tuned to 987 The Big Boy and Cheyenne County Country for updates on additional sign-up locations and event details.
