NORFOLK, Neb. -- Staff from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis and US92’s radio station in Norfolk Nebraska joined forces to raise money, and do everything in their power to bring an end to childhood cancers and other life-threatening illnesses. To support this vital mission, they host a two-day event, Feb. 20-21, called Radiothon, aimed at raising essential donations.

Since the 1990s, St. Jude has collaborated with radio stations all over the country to provide listeners with heartfelt stories about their St. Jude patients. St. Jude explains the impact it’s having and how it spreads awareness about St Jude's unique mission to cure cancer.

Although it may not be here physically, St. Jude doctors collaborate and share their research and advancements to help hospitals locally and all over the world.

With the help of many volunteers assigned to different tasks throughout the two-day radiothon, volunteers will answer phones, pack goodie bags for patients in Memphis, and write thank you cards. Although volunteers may not give money at the moment, their time is impactful and helps spread St. Judes Mission to save lives.

“With the volunteers devoting their time at St. Jude, no family ever receives a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food," said Crysta Moore, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital development specialist. "St. Jude is leading the way the world treats, defeats, and understands childhood cancer.”

"When someone calls to donate and be a partner in hope for $19 a month, US92 and St. Jude not only recognize your contribution for a great cause but also send you home with a gift," Moore said. "They will get a 'This Shirt Saves Lives' T-shirt because they literally are saving lives with their donation. In addition to that, they're getting a sweatshirt this year, which is pretty cool. It's a unique opportunity that not every market gets. So Norfolk is pretty lucky to have that."

Hospital officials say the treatments invented at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital have raised the survival rate for children with cancer. In the United States, four out of five children survive cancer. In many countries, however, one out of five children who develop cancer will survive.

This year, all Partners in Hope (donations of $19 per month on a credit card) get a St. Jude T-Shirt AND Sweatshirt.
