BEATRICE – A consulting report on the Safe Streets for All project scheduled to be provided to Beatrice city officials was postponed, because of the frigid winter weather. Consultants from JEO from Omaha will instead provide the report and recommendations to the mayor and city council at a meeting early in March.

Meanwhile, the City of Beatrice is making its initial contractor payments on the new landfill being constructed, southwest of the city.  The Beatrice City Council approved two payments Tuesday night, associated with the initial work on the $13 million project.

One payment totals nearly $414,000 to Pruss Excavation, and a payment of nearly $95,000 goes to Genesis Contracting Group for the landfill site entrance.

The council recommended approval of a class-D liquor license for a new business, taking over a business on North 8th Street. The license application is being sought by Lori Rezac.

"I live just north of Lincoln. We own a farm out there. We have cattle and everything and I also have two businesses in Lincoln. I own Moran's Liquor Works and I also own Cheapest Damn Cigarettes over on 48th and Cornhusker..so that was my first store. We decided to purchase the K-and-B Tobacco...and kind of keep the tradition going since it's been in the community for so long."

The new business will go by the name, Cheapest Damn Butts and Booze….and is located at 116 North 8th. The council’s recommendation now goes to the Nebraska Liquor Commission, which grants or denies licenses.

In other matters, council members approved the reappointments of Larry Ramsey, Cheryl Wirth, Tammy Brown, Sherrie Beekman and Karla Hopkins to the Beatrice Housing Authority Board and approved an airport hangar lease with Highrize Aviation LLC.

City permission was granted to KWBE A-M for an alcohol and merchandise sales permit for an event June 13th, at Charles Park…from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.
