HARTINGTON - Class D1 #4 Cedar Catholic's offense came alive late, and their defense sealed a hard-fought 49-48 girls basketball win over Pierce.

The Blue Jays opened the game riding hot shooting to a seven-point first quarter lead. But the Trojans opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run, bringing the game close, where it would stay for the rest of the game.

Neither team had much offensive rhythm coming out of the half, combining for just nine points in the fourth quarter.

But in the fourth, the basket opened back up for both teams, with each squad trading late three-pointers to tie the game at 42.

In the extra session, sophomore Anisten Wortmann hit just one of two on a trip to the free throw line with seven seconds left. But the Trojans stole the ball from Pierce's Skylar Scholting as she crossed half court, sealing the win.

Cedar Catholic has now won five of their last six.
