Two people suffer life-threatening injuries in Hastings house fire
HASTINGS, Neb. — Two people are fighting for their lives after a morning house fire in Hastings.
Firefighters responded to a report of the blaze just before 7:00 in the 1100 block of Jefferson Ave. According to a news release, emergency responders transported a man and a boy to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Firefighters also rescued a dog, which received care at a local veterinarian and is doing well.
The release says crews declared the fire under control around 8:10 a.m. The fire caused about $38,000 in damage to the structure.
Investigators believe the fire had burned for some time and went unnoticed because of the lack of working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
Hastings Fire and Rescue called American Red Cross for mutual support, but the organization wasn’t immediately able to respond. Several local citizens and businesses reacted by bringing hot drinks and food for firefighters.
