Demolition begins on abandoned houses on Burlington Ave. in Hastings
HASTINGS, Neb. – Four abandoned houses in Hastings are in the process of demolition to clear space for a new car wash building.
On Monday, deconstruction began on the four empty houses on the west side of Burlington Ave. in between Hill St. and W. 13th St.
The city says the four houses have been vacant since at least 2021.
The space is anticipated to become a 'Tommy's' Car Wash according to the sign planted in the front yard of one of the properties.
Hastings Development Services says the land is owned by a private party, who has been approved for a conditional use permit for a car wash.
However, the company hasn't submitted any building plans to the city yet.
The south-most house was demolished yesterday by construction crews, and the other houses are expected to be knocked down by the end of the year.
