COLUMBUS, Neb. -- A two-vehicle accident resulted in the death of a 36-year-old woman Wednesday morning.

The Platte Valley Sheriff's Office said that the accident happened at the intersection of E 83rd St. and E 14th Ave around 7:35 a.m., Wednesday.

Law enforcement said that initial reports showed that one of the vehicles had an unresponsive person inside and the other vehicle's occupants weren't inside, but the vehicle was actively on fire.

The investigation showed that a Chevy Malibu, driven by a 36-year-old Echo Suy, was heading south on E 14th Ave. when it was hit in the driver's door by a Buick Enclave that was heading west, driven by a juvenile.

After the accident, both vehicles exited the roadway, coming to a stop in a field southwest of the intersection.

The juvenile driver and juvenile occupant in the Enclave were both able to get out of the vehicle before it started on fire.

The Suy was removed from her vehicle by Columbus Fire and Rescue and was taken to a local hospital. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The occupants of the Enclave were taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Columbus Fire extinguished the fire that had started in the Enclave.

An accident reconstructionist from the Nebraska State Patrol responded to the scene and investigated the accident.

It was reported that seatbelts were not in use in the Malibu. Whether or not seatbelts were used in the Enclave is unknown at this time.

Airbags reportedly deployed in the Malibu, but because of the fire, law enforcement said it's unknown if airbags deployed in the Enclave.

The intersection where the accident happened were closed for several hours due to the investigation and scene cleanup.

Law enforcement said that alcohol was not a factor.

The accident remains under investigation by the Platte County Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.
